About this place
Up a flight of stairs from the busy streets of Akasaka-Mitsuke, Sushi Uminomichi serves high-quality seafood in a relaxed setting. You can choose a set course or put together an à la carte meal to suit your mood, with Edomae sushi and small dishes to enjoy with drinks.
A highlight of the menu is bluefin tuna sourced from Yamayuki, a renowned wholesaler at Toyosu. Choose from medium-fatty tuna, whose richness gently melts on the tongue, deeply savoury lean tuna, or seared medium-fatty tuna with a fragrant, lightly grilled finish. The popular toro-taku roll is generously filled and lifted by the fresh aroma of shiso; crisp pickled radish contrasts with the sweetness of the rich tuna for a lingering, satisfying finish.
There is plenty to enjoy before moving on to the sushi. The half hairy crab is picked entirely by hand, making its delicate sweetness easy to savour without the work of removing the meat yourself. It comes with miso soup made with stock from the shell. Other warm dishes include live abalone and asparagus grilled with butter, where the richness of the liver meets the fragrance of the butter, and corn tempura with a crisp coating and bursts of sweet kernels. These dishes make fine accompaniments to a drink.
The sake list includes labels such as Yuki no Bosha Yamahai Junmai and Kokuryu Junmai Ginjo, while highballs made with Japanese whiskies including Yamazaki and Hakushu are also available. Take a counter seat to watch the chefs at work and chat with them, or opt for a private room for a more leisurely conversation. The private rooms also suit informal meals and post-event gatherings. There are generous courses and an omakase selection of 10 pieces of sushi featuring popular toppings; booking ahead is a good idea.
